Hurricane Helene Disaster Relief Efforts
The devastation that Tropical Storm Helene has brought to western North Carolina and East Tennessee breaks our hearts. As we consider what we can do to help those who have lost so much, including friends and family members, here are some opportunities to assist in ministering to their needs.
First and foremost, pray! Pray for the physical and spiritual needs of those who are suffering to be met and for the protection of those who are there helping. Pray for God to show his love, mercy, and grace in ways that will bring hope and healing and will further his kingdom purposes.
Chowan Campus Ministries is collecting items for hurricane victims through Thursday afternoon, October 3. The trailer is located at Green Hall on campus, and will leave at 6:00 p.m. Thursday to take collected items to St. John Baptist Church, where the West Chowan Baptist Association has a tractor-trailer being filled with supplies to take to western NC just outside Asheville. Items they are collecting include Gatorade, water, diapers, hygiene kits, and non-perishable items (no clothing except new socks and work gloves).
Murfreesboro Baptist Church is collecting gently used clothing, new socks, and work gloves to send to western NC (exact location to be determined), through Monday, October 14. We are inviting other churches and individuals in our town and surrounding communities to participate in this collection.
Make a donation to disaster relief efforts by sending a check to Murfreesboro Baptist Church with “Disaster Relief NC” in the memo line. Our Deacons will determine which organization to send the funds to, and your donation will be forwarded promptly along with other funds given.
Consider volunteering with NC Baptists on Mission to help with ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
With the extent of the devastation, this will be a long-term disaster relief and recovery effort. So keep a watch out for future opportunities as well!
